AI-supported systems engineering for SMEs

Ongoing project. Artificial intelligence (large language models) makes model-based systems engineering (MBSE) simpler, more efficient and more accessible – especially for Bavarian SMEs.

Background

The development of modern, interdisciplinary systems – for example in mechanical and plant engineering – is complex. The more subsystems, specialist disciplines and technologies are involved, the greater the coordination effort. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) offers a holistic approach to mastering this complexity. Instead of confusing documents, MBSE presents all requirements and designs in digital, machine-readable models (e.g. UML or SysML). This enables smooth and comprehensible collaboration between all parties involved.

Despite its many advantages, MBSE is not yet widely used by SMEs in particular. High barriers to entry such as special know-how and high initial outlay often represent obstacles.

The task

This is where LLM-SE comes in: The aim is to use AI in the form of Large Language Models (LLMs) to simplify the application of MBSE and make it semi-automated. An AI-supported assistant supports development processes by automatically converting requirements into digital models and checking them for correctness. This allows engineers to perform more creative tasks while routine work is taken over by the AI.

Benefits for companies

Increased efficiency: Faster development processes thanks to AI-supported model generation.
Error reduction: Automatic validation and consistency checks reduce rework and ensure quality.
Easier to get started: Less training required thanks to intuitive AI support for model creation.
Competitiveness: Access to the latest technology without major personnel costs.
